My name is Glenn Phipps. Over the last couple of decades I've evolved my clinical Exercise Physiology skills, combined with my past background in yoga teaching, to help everyone from the worlds best athletes to weekend warriors, whether they are suffering injury, want to prevent them, or just want to feel like they are doing the best for their sport. 

2 big mistakes

 

During my career I've seen 2 common mistakes.
Firstly, I see people trying to chase all different therapies and approaches, like massage, chiro, PT and so on, and hoping they will all work together. They can, but usually the different approaches by the therapists means they are working towards different goals. In many cases, the athlete is taking on board completely different advice from different people, which is working on opposite goals. We need a cohesive approach to apply to out training and development if it is to work.

 

Secondly, I see many people stretching and performing other types of exercises that don't actually crossover into real life or sport. Ticking mobility off the list, or your training session is good for the ego, but we need to ensure that whatever time we spend on developing our body and movement, actually helps in our sport and daily life. 

 

After years of research, education and trial and error, I gradually started to pull out the components of my yoga teaching, and put them into my patients and athletes home based practice, to ensure that they could continue to improve outside of the time they spent with me. Gradually I developed a system that left no stone unturned. I could send my athletes away with simple yoga like routines that ensured strong and healthy joints, corrected imbalance, improved range of motion in a usable way, and trained the brain to make sure that all of this stuff was actually usable in their sport and life, rather than just ticking the next session of the list.
